Rainy Day Chases the Crowds Away from the Hermès Sale

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

The Hermès sample sale seems to be going strong on its second day at Soiffer Haskin on West 33rd Street. We credit the rain for the fortuitous lack of lines at the front entrance, though there was still a short line to pay. By mid-afternoon there were no more women's scarves, which, according to a staffer, were the first to go. (Based on previous experience, we're hoping they'll restock.) We did, however, see a few handmade scarves with beaded fringe detailing.

There were only ten suitcases left plus a dwindling table full of belts, but the clothing and shoe racks were more than plentiful. And men can still browse a whole table full of ties, as well as racks full of men's buttondowns, slacks, and outerwear.—Katherine Park
