Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Earlier today, we ranked The Top Ten New Places to Shop of Fashion's Night Out. Before that, we ran through The Top Ten Musical Performances. With less than a week until the city-wide shopping party, we're planning to highlight all the best events in our annual guide. Up now: The Top Ten Unexpected Celebrities.
Forget about the Tim Gunns and Rachel Zoes, the Vogue staffers and supermodels. This time around, Fashion's Night Out is all about the unusual guests. It's no secret who the winner of this category is going to be (hint: she's right in front of you) but she had some serious competition. And any contest where Miss Piggy goes up against Tilda Swinton and Harry Potter is a contest for the ages.
10. Jaslene Gonzalez and "Vh1 Glam God INDASHIO" at Famous Footwear
Jaslene "Cha Cha Diva" Gonzalez was the winner of Cycle 8 of America's Next Top Model. INDASHIO is a stylist and designer who won VH1's Glam God, and who seems to feel strongly about capital letters. They're hosting a casting call for models to walk in INDASHIO's Fashion Week show. On a list of random celebrities, it doesn't get much more random than this. 250 West 34th Street, 6pm.
9. Backstreet Boy AJ McLean at Kiehl's
Wait, sorry, we take it back. Kiehl's may have out-randomed everyone with their choice of guest stars, a goateed gentleman who you might remember as the bad seed of the Backstreet Boys. He'll be singing at the beauty brand's karaoke party, which is open to '90s recording sensations and the public alike. If you perform, you'll be rewarded with a free lip balm. 109 Third Avenue, 6:30pm.
8. Kristen Bauer, aka Pam from True Blood, at Sephora
It's possible that Kristen Bauer isn't actually the same person as the character she plays on True Blood, but even if she's one-tenth as cool as fashion-loving, ass-kicking vampire second-in-command Pam, this should be good. The write-up promises the chance to "get eternally glamoured with Tarte for True Blood," so we guess you should expect either hypnosis or makeovers. 200 West 42nd Street, 6pm.
7. Seth Meyers at Coach Madison Ave Men's
Seth Meyers at Fashion's Night Out, really? Really, Coach? Really? The host of Saturday Night Live's "Weekend Update" has never struck us as a fashion guy, but he is pretty hilarious, so we'll take it. Meyers will be pouring cocktails at the classic bag label's menswear shop. 595 Madison Avenue, 7pm.
6. Donald Glover at Bloomingdale's
Speaking of comedians, Community star Donald Glover will be at Bloomie's to celebrate GQ's collaboration with Docker. Glover was in the Gap's holiday campaign last year, so he's got some fashion experience, although perhaps not as much as his fellow partygoers: Alexander Wang, Michael Bastian, Patrik Ervell, Kirk Miller of Miller's Oath, and the designers behind Warriors of Radness and Riviera Club. 1000 Third Avenue, mid-level, 6pm.
5. Carmelo and La La Anthony at Rag & Bone
The basketball star and his DJ/actress wife will co-host a private party with label founders Marcus Wainwright and David Neville at the Soho store. To wrangle an invitation, sign up on Rag & Bone's website. If all else fails, you can always try another downtown Rag & Bone for free drinks and the chance to shop the brand's special FNO merchandise, which includes hats designed by Carmelo and La La themselves. Or you could catch Anthony's teammate Amar'e Stoudemire with Rachel Roy at Macy's at 6pm.119 Mercer Street, 6pm
4. Samuel L. Jackson and Angela Basset at Armani
Unlikely? Sure. Kitschy? Not hardly. The actor and actress will appear at the Giorgio Armani boutique to discuss their upcoming Broadway play, "The Mountaintop," which is about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. the night before his assassination. Get your highbrow on with the help of Vogue theater critic Adam Green, who will be moderating. 760 Madison Avenue, 8pm
3. Daniel Radcliffe at Jeffrey New York
Harry freaking Potter, people. Need we say more? The Boy Who Lived be greeting guests with his co-star from the Broadway musical "How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying," Rose Hemingway. You'll also be able to check out Columbia's collaboration with Jeffrey and buy Clarins-Courtin Feed 10 bags, which carry three classic Clarins products. 449 West 14th Street, 6pm
2. Tilda Swinton at Saks Fifth Avenue
SWINTON! The androgynous actress and fashion enigma will appear at Saks alongside Pringle of Scotland designer Alistair Carr, Louise Wilson of Central St. Martins, jewelry designer Waris Ahluwalia, and artist Ryan McGinley. Expect her to wear something remarkable and possibly backwards. 611 Fifth Avenue, 5:30pm
1. Miss Piggy at Opening Ceremony
For the second year in a row, the OC at the Ace Hotel is hosting a carnival. Last year's was inspired by Paris; this time around, the theme is Argentina. But Opening Ceremony is also planning a collaboration with the Muppets, which means Miss Piggy herself will make an appearance fresh off her stint editing Vogue Paris. 20 West 29th Street, 6pm
