The French invasion we've been prophesying for a few months now is just about complete, what with the recent openings of Surface to Air and Ladurée, the latter of which saw ridiculously long lines from the throngs of people who are just so over cupcakes. This morning, we garnered some more information via WWD on the upcoming Maje and Sandro stores, which to refresh, are each owned by one sister in a set of siblings.
We already knew the addresses, but now we have dates! Sandro will open on October 26 at 415 Bleecker Street. WWD reports that Bleecker will be getting "separate Sandro women's and men's stores," however on Sandro's website there's only one address listed. (It does look like there's two doors in the image above, though, so this one's a wait-and-see.) Maje will also open on the same exact day at 417 Bleecker Street, aka right next door.
Maje has a Soho location lined up at 145 Spring Street, and will open those doors on October 12. WWD adds that Sandro, of course, is also looking for a Soho space. So, why do these brands refuse to go anywhere without each other like they're two sisters or something? Frederic Biousse, CEO of SMCP Group in France and CEO of SMCP USA (the company that owns both brands) says, "We don't necessarily want the brands to be next to each other, but when that does happen, sales increase by over 20 percent. Customers buy both Sandro and Maje. It's like cross fertilization."
Biousse says that Sandro and Maje aren't just calling it a day with these locations: "Our goal is to have at least five to eight stores for each of the brands by February." To hit that mark, he's looking at Nolita, the Upper East Side, Upper West Side, and Union Square. If you can't wait for all that, both lines currently have in-store shops at Bloomingdales.
