The Stella McCartney Sale Will Blow You Away, If You're Lucky

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

The Stella McCartney friends and family sale is going on today and tomorrow. The bad news: Most New Yorkers aren't friends and family of Stella McCartney, and the sale is by invitation—non-transferable invitation—only. The good news: There's a chance you can sneak in. But we're not promising anything. When we walked in there was someone at the door checking credentials, but when we left (disclaimer: it was a good while later) there was no one there. It'll definitely depend on the time of day, though.

The sale is huge, and has racks upon racks of ready-to-wear, plus a room full of shoes, another full of handbags and accessories, and yet another room of Adidas by Stella McCartney and Stella McCartney Kids. All full-price items are 80% off, and the items that were already marked down 60% are an additional 50% off. Take a second to process that. Pretty much any recent Stella item you could possibly want is probably there.

There are a lot of items—blouses, shorts, skirts, shoes, sweaters—originally in the $500 to $800 range, which puts them between $100 to $160 after the discount. There's a whole room full of dresses which originally ran in the thousands. A $2000 dress, for example, is now $400. There are some really basic tees around $40 after the discount. There's also plenty of outerwear—we found a black trench we liked for $295 (originally $1475), a gray peacoat for $219 (originally $1095), and a really nice double-vented jacket for $429 (originally $2145). There's a table of jeans originally around $345 to $475, so now they're $69 to $95, and a few already-reduced jeans around $119 to $149, now $59.50 to $74.50.

A lot of the bags were originally running upwards of $1000, so after the discount they're only going to be a little over $200. So. Very. Irresistible. There are some great heeled boots now $149, and pumps discounted to $131. Wallets are discounted to around $100 and belts to $59 to $109.

We recommend you bring your wallet, basic math skills, and a little bit of luck to get past the door, which may or may not be manned when you try to sneak in. The sale runs today and tomorrow from 9am—8pm at the Flatotel, 135 West 52nd Street between Sixth and Seventh Avenues.—Lauren Budorick
