More Beauty for Bleecker: Jo Malone Due in October

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

A tipster points out that signage for the understated fragrance line Jo Malone has appeared in the windows of the closed Bread & Pastry Cafe on Bleecker between W. 10th and Christopher. When the 12-year-old bakery shuttered back in June, Robert Sietsema of the Village Voice wrote a gleeful anti-eulogy, ranting about the disturbingly shiny pies. He concluded: "There are plenty of good places to eat in the neighborhood, and Bread & Pastry Cafe was not one of them...Will a real pie shop now please move in?"

Jo Malone is obviously not that pie shop, but it should smell just as good as a bakery—better, if you prefer the scent of lime, basil and mandarin to vanilla, cinnamon and trans fats. Set to open in October, the boutique will join Jo Malone counters at Bloomingdale's, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Bergdorf, as well as a stand-alone shop at Madison and 75th Street.
