Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Two months after the Memorial Day incident that left holes in its pristine glass exterior, the Apple Store near Lincoln Center still hasn't been fixed. The company covered the damaged windows with black sheeting at the beginning of the summer, and now anonymous street artists are using it as a canvas, scratching off chunks to make what West Side Rag calls "rudimentary designs." Meanwhile, a whole "Bedouin village" of street vendors has appeared outside the store, adding a little bit of noise and color to the stark modern site.

Apple hasn't been forthcoming about when the window situation might improve. Even the store staffers told told West Side Rag that they're not included in those discussions. With the Fifth Avenue Cube under wraps for a $7 million repair job and the Soho store about to take on a temporary new home, three out of the four local Apples will soon be undergoing repairs. Good thing the Meatpacking store is still in mint condition.
