Upon hearing that the Calypso St. Barth flagship was opening in the Upper East Side today, we were eager to check it out. We were dreaming perhaps there would be a few live palm trees and a steel drum band, or at least maybe free dark and stormies for the opening weekend and some special items exclusive to the flagship. There aren't.
It is a nice store, without a doubt, on Madison Avenue between 72nd and 73rd Streets. The interior, by Allen + Killcoyne, is pretty, bright, spacious—in short, exactly what you would expect of a store bearing the Calypso St. Barth name. There are some pretty shell chandeliers, lots of beautiful natural wood, and of course racks upon racks of clothes (sorted by color) that are begging you to book an impromptu trip to the Caribbean. And all the sale merchandise is an extra 30% off. But the dark and stormies, sadly, are nowhere to be found.—Lauren Budorick
