On the Garment District

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

DNAinfo has taken a good, hard look at the current status of the Garment District, and notes that even though many of its big-name designers have left, there are still new ones coming in. Among those who have gone elsewhere are Vera Wang and Oscar de la Renta, but preservationists are still fighting to keep the neighborhood going. Jason Wu, for example, is on board. "It would only make sense for a designer who’s very hands-on to be in the midst of where it all takes place. This is where the magic happens." [DNAinfo]
