Out with Borders, In with J. Crew Men's at the Time Warner Center

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

With the Tribeca J. Crew Men's Shop taking care of the downtown population, the Madison Avenue spot dealing to the UES, and the recently remodeled Rockefeller Center location ably handling Midtown, it's well past time for another neighborhood to get a dose of the dapper. As we already announced, this will be Columbus Circle/Upper West Side, as J. Crew Men's moves into a very large, central space on the second level of the Time Warner Center (next to the carcass of the slowly dying Borders Books).

The plywood is up, it's appropriately quirky in an almost Jack Spade-y way, and work progresses toward a projected opening in November. The interior will of course be a huge sausagefest of heritage brands mixed with J. Crew staples, all snuggled in leather-bound books and rich mahogany.

Although the Men's Shop won't be open in time to steer in the menswear bloggers at Fashion Week, both J. Crew womenswear and menswear are due for a combined, scheduled runway show in the tents. Just to whet your appetite, you know.
