Today's Women's Wear Daily contains all sorts of fun details about Zac Posen's first Z Spoke store, which is set to open in the Meatpacking District on August 25. First fun detail: The merchandise will include Illesteva sunglasses, scented candles, and Z Spoke accessories like bags and hats along with apparel. Second fun detail: The space will be painted red, with postmodern furniture and—per Posen—a "film noir" quality. And third fun detail: There's a library! Posen recruited Michael Gallegher, the former owner of Gallegher's bookstore on E. 12th Street, to stock the space with rare and vintage books.
WWD also reveals a curious business angle to this story. Z Spoke will be opening on the corner of 14th and Washington, a retail strip dominated by Scoop in all its many forms. Scoop's parent company also owns Zac Posen, and Scoop NYC will actually operate Posen's new store. So while Z Spoke might be replacing Scoop Beach, the space's management remains the same.
