Express just became the latest national brand to sign on for a space on Downtown Brooklyn's Fulton Street Mall, adding its name to a list that includes H&M, Aeropostale, The Gap, Filene's Basement, and Shack Shack. WWD points out that the chain's CEO, Michael Weiss, has a personal connection to the neighborhood: He got his retail training at the Fulton Street flagship of the Abraham & Straus department store, in the building that now houses Macy's.
The new Express will occupy 10,000 square feet at 490 Fulton, the same building that's supposed to house a 40,000-square-foot Filene's Basement/Syms hybrid. The building will also contain Long Island University dorms, giving both stores a built-in customer base just upstairs.
