Barneys certainly picked the right time to combine its Co-Ops: The October move of the men's Co-Op to the eighth floor means that the entire fifth floor is vacant during the holiday season. Naturally, head honcho Mark Lee has decided to fill that floor with Lady Gaga—or more specifically, Gaga's Workshop—and what will predictably be a pretty elaborate holiday stunt.
WWD reports that the space will be "filled with limited edition gift items developed by Gaga and her go-to fashion friend Nicola Formichetti." Gifts up for grabs will include books and CDs curated by Gaga, jewelry made solely out of rock candy, hand-painted dark chocolate, special Gaga-colored lipsticks, and a Rubik's Cube, to name a few.
Lee said he came up with the idea before he even worked at Barneys, after watching Gaga invade New York landmarks like Carnegie Hall and the Today Show, and thought it only fitting that she'd invade their soon-to-be empty fifth floor. And of course, their holiday windows.
Then he mentioned this: "I also always have a strong memory of Barbra Streisand singing and dancing in 1964 in that other store around the corner. I thought, 'Wouldn't it be great to bring that forward and who would be that pop icon today to do something associated to Barneys?'" That other store, by the way, is Bergdorf.
