Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
We're heading out a bit early for Summer Friday. Have a good weekend!
LOWER EAST SIDE—Bowery Boogie reports that Lavai Maria has opened at 165 Orchard Street, the space near Stanton Street that used to house The Sound Library. This is the second location for store owner Vania Alves, who started selling reworked vintage out of her Bedford Avenue Mini-Mall shop last year. Fans of Williamsburg market Artists & Fleas might also remember Alves as the in-house tailor there. [Bowery Boogie; Previously] Update: The store has since moved back to Williamsburg and is now located at 109 N. 5th Street.
TRIBECA—Three downtown-related items of interest: 1) Basics purveyor Michael Stars has opened a store at 326 Canal, with an entrance on Lispenard. 2) Metro Gym on Broadway has closed without ever taking down its "Grand Opening" sign. And 3) Scandinavian kids' store Polarn O. Pyret isn't just coming to Tribeca—it's also adding a location on Columbus Avenue. "Feel less special?" asks Tribeca Citizen. [TC]
