New York City has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around our fantastic city that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.

Art advisor Heather Flow is one hell of an expert when it comes to emerging and contemporary fine artists. Flow lends her skills to those looking to purchase art, and is one of the only consultants in the USA who has zeroed in on both new and emerging talent. So, naturally, when we were looking for a gallery in downtown NYC that emphasized the new and exciting, we looked no further than Flow to fill us in on her Lower East Side secret.

On Stellar Rays opened in September of 2008 with a program of artists interested in experimenting across all available mediums...performance, sound, as well as, film as media for more traditional mediums, such as, painting, photography, sculpture, and works on paper. Since 2008, the gallery presented solo exhibitions of Clifford Owens, Debo Eilers, JJ PEET, Georgia Sagri, Zipora Fried, Tommy Hartung, Alix Pearlstein, Maria Petschnig, and Rochelle Feinstein. In MoMA/PS1's exhibition Greater New York 2010, five of On Stellar Rays' artists were included in the 68 total artists presented in the show. On Stellar Rays had the strongest representation of any gallery. And watch for Clifford Owens solo show at MoMA/PS1 opening within the year. If you are looking for the present generation of future stars, look no further than 133 Orchard Street, On Stellar Rays.
