Since it gets pretty damn cold every New York winter, Jeffrey Kalinsky of Jeffrey New York (and Atlanta) has decided to team up with Columbia Sportswear on a capsule collection of down outwear, fleece jackets, and boots. The line will be hitting Jeffrey in September, as well as five Nordstrom locations on both coasts. WWD reports that the collection will be composed of traditional Columbia gear, but "all in sleek, pared-down designs with slimmer fits." No giant, obnoxious puffy coats here. This is Jeffrey, after all.
The rendition of Columbia's Bugaboot will go for $180, fleece jackets are priced at $250, down vests for $450, and down jackets capping off at $495. And the collaboration—which may at first seem unlikely, given that it's Columbia's first time partnering with another brand—has an interesting root. Apparently, Tim Boyle, chairman and chief executive officer of Columbia Sportswear, has a golfing buddy whose wife is a top customer at Jeffrey. She recommended that the two brands partner up, which proves that there are a few instances in the world where it helps to have a spend-happy wife.
