Back in 2010 in the midst of World Cup fever, Nike opened up a soccer themed pop-up and art gallery on the Bowery dubbed Nike Stadium. Fast forward a year and Nike Stadium is undergoing a timely transformation into "The Wave", an East Coast surf and skate-themed shopping, exhibition and workshop space.
Come tomorrow, bye-bye sleek and streamlined soccer references and hello quarter-pipe and skate-ramp. The makeover is even complete with a storefront blanketed with a near-infinite number of skateboard stickers. The refreshed Nike Stadium will stock Nike-branded skate and surf-related apparel (i.e., lots of hoodies and board shorts) and paraphernalia, plus host lectures, live musical performances, product launches, and mentoring workshops. They'll even hold classic skater and surfer film screenings that we're hoping will be populated with cute floppy-haired boys.
