An Observer article ponders why the city has had such a harsh reaction to Walmart, but seems to unconditionally love Duane Reade (most of the time). The story twists and turns, but we think this could be why: "Duane Reade is an inevitable retail experience for New Yorkers; a place to fill a birth control prescription when drunk at 3 a.m. on the Upper West Side or buy milk on a Sunday morning in Bedford-Stuyvesant."
