Upon dropping by the GAR-DE sale around noon today, we confirmed two things. First, despite the possibly misleading hyphen, GAR-DE is pronounced gärd, like guard. Second, there are some majorly awesome deals—up to 90% off—on current and past season items, plus pieces by Hyden Yoo, Rogan, Loomstate, Shae and shoe by 80%20.
After entering (and checking your bag), make sure you take a careful look through the "additional markdowns" rack to your immediate right. Here, you'll find a smattering of samples, which are marked lower than the overstock pieces that we'll discuss in a few. For instance, the buttery soft, perforated suede and leather sample moto-jacket is priced at $198, as compared to the overstock piece across the room priced at $249. We also found lots of one-off fall leather and wool mix coats for $198, a suede mesh-layer tank dress for $125, slouchy, distressed-tassle tanks for $19 and perforated leather and cut-out back vests for $128.
Then head to the opposite side of the room for GAR-DE overstock. We found black silk shorts ($45), graphic versions ($49), tetris-y black and white patterned skirts ($40-ish), sexy, slounchy, perforated leather jackets (in black and camel for $198), solid black and grey dot-pattern bustier and zip-detail frocks ($79 and $59, respectively), the overstock version of the moto-vest with the cut-out back ($149), belted trenches ($98) and racer-back tanks ($29).
Working our way around the room, there are a bunch of Rogan tees priced at $25, plus a random selection of items like a loose knit poncho for $70 and a shiny denim blazer for $68. Hyden Yoo deals feature layered short-shorts for $46 and hidden-button cropped nylon jackets for $80. The 80%20 printed canvas wedges and clogs run from $55 to $80 a pair.
There is no private fitting room—the entire showroom is your dressing area, with two large mirrors for assessing and a big empty table to pile up your finds. There are additional sizes in the back, so definitely ask one of the trendy and friendly staffers for assistance. Credit cards are accepted for purchases over $100, otherwise it's cash only. Remember: it may be soupy and sweltering outside, but come September, you're going to wish you bought that luscious leather piece at a serious discount.
