New York City has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around our fantastic city that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.

Melissa Ladines-Mejia acts as Levi's global publicist for womenswear, making sure that the centuries-old denim company with their signature red tab appears prominently in the minds of well, everyone. When she isn't managing their NYC headquarters, and when she needs a little break from it all, she ventures to one of Chinatown's best-kept secrets—best-kept until now, that is.
Years ago, a stylist tipped me on this hair salon for cheap blow outs called New Ocean Salon in Little Italy/Chinatown. You essentially get a hair wash, scalp and back massage, blow-out, and your hair ironed, straightened and styled for $12. (Back then it was $8.) If you want to add a cut or trim your total is $20. It's definitely not the fanciest salon but it gets the job done at a very affordable price. Unfortunately they don't take appointments so you will be waiting with a mixture of locals, NYU students, models, and publicists waiting for their turn. It's definitely a nice cheap treat without sacrificing your shoe fund.· Levi's [Official Site]
