This probably won't be the only time that we'll use the words Barbie and Nicola Formichetti in the same post, but this might be the rare occasion that the subject matter also involves Uniqlo. First off, that wild and crazy Barbie has completely taken over the Soho Uniqlo flagship and turned it into a Barbie wonderland of sorts. The transformation (into what kind of reminds us of bubblegum-pink-tastic and now-defunct former neighbor Kira Plastinina) in is in celebration of today's launch of a line of Barbie-themed tees. For just $19.90, you can proclaim your love for Barbie via t-shirt message and for a round-trip subway fare to Soho, you can bask in complete Barbie-ness first hand. There is even a Barbie-pink Ferrari on display!
Onto the second piece of Uniqlo news: The Japanese mega-brand just kicked off their UNIQLOOKS 2011 Summer Contest, which will ultimately be judged by Lady Gaga stylist, Thierry Mugler fashion director and pop-up-shop-artist Nicola Formichetti. The three grand prize finalists will win a four-day, three-night trip for two to one of the international Uniqlo flagship stores, which are located in London, Paris, Tokyo and Shanghai. (We're assuming that you'd opt out of the fifth flagship located in Soho, New York.)
So it goes like this: You create and upload your favorite Uniqlo summer-inspired look onto the UNIQLOOKS contest page. The top twenty looks that receive the highest number of Facebook "likes" will be whittled down to the ultimate trinity by the esteemed and eccentric Nicola Formichetti. (This is probably where you enlist your legions FB friends and family to boost your chances for a brush with Formichetti and his Gaga-ness. Just a thought.) The contest runs until July 18, with the top 20 announced on July 19 and the grand price decision declared on August 1. Considering that your fate will be in the hands of the man behind Gaga's now-iconic meat dress, we'd suggest you think out-of-the-box for this one.
