Downtown music and electronics behemoth J&R Music and Computer World wants to rename its block "J&R Way" as a promotional gimmick. The store, which sits on Park Row between Beekman and Ann Streets, made its request in front of Community Board 1 last week. Spokesman Abe Brown argued that six hundred jobs depended on the name change, but the board wasn't convinced. One member, Mike Skidmore, told the Post that he was worried about setting a bad precedent: "Before you know it, we'll have Chase Avenue and JPMorgan Way." Despite the board's initial rejection, though, the store plans to keep pushing City Council for approval.
