Early last year, we were somewhat perplexed by these candy-colored Croc-Converse mash-up designs from the Vancouver-based Native Shoes. Well, we're glad we had a year to digest the idea because from June 10 to August 6, the Canucks are bringing these Croc-tastic hybrids straight to us with a pop-up shop located on the Bowery. The pop-up will take place in conjunction with the first New York solo art exhibit from pop-art duo FriendsWithYou.
Since last year, Native Shoes has expanded their portfolio to incorporate lace-less Keds-inspired numbers and preppy sailing-ready deck shoes that are all reasonably priced at $49.99 and under. The press release for the exhibit-cum-pop-up promises fantastical things like, "spinning neon candies in our storefront windows", "splat happy wall works" and "a grinning ghost or two"—which we don't totally get, but think sounds like fun. Plus, if anything does splatter, we're sure it can be easily rinsed off of a pair of conveniently ventilated and rubbery Native Shoes.
Update: A Native rep writes in to say that the press release had the wrong date. The pop-up begins June 10, not June 9.
