Rag & Bone's seasonal sample sale at the Chelsea Market only takes up to 65% off, which feels a little less generous of a markdown than some of the other big clearance events this spring. But we still found plenty to buy at the sale yesterday, when it opened to the public a day early.
Through the glass doors labeled Rag & Bone lies something for everyone. Women's clothing is located at the front of the space, while men's is at the back along with the always-packed shoe bar. Let's talk shoes first: They're all $195, unless they are Italian-made, in which case they cost $350. There are lace-up boots, wedges, tie-up and slip-on flats, and chunky sandals, as well as sneakers for men, mainly in Rag & Bone's military palette of brown and black (with a few colorful exceptions.)
Women's clothing was available in all sizes, though pants ran 26 to 30. But if you can't find your size among the merchandise on the floor, there's still hope. Ask for assistance—they will most likely have it in stock. What you can expect to see for pricing runs as follows for both men and women: Jackets are $250 to $295, bottoms are $95 to $125, shirts are $40 to $95, sweaters and vests are $125, and dresses are $75 to $195. You can also accessorize these outfits with hats, gloves, scarves, belts, and bags ($45 to $125), but your options are somewhat limited, since there are only two accessory tables.
Among women's RTW, we liked a silk and satin top with suspender straps ($95) and a pale pink dress given an edgy twist with leather accents ($495.) In the men's area, it's all about the button-downs and coats. To give you some idea, there are chambray, stripes, checkered, and solid colored shirts. And though it's no longer outerwear season, the blazers and spring overcoats would accompany the men's shirting quite nicely.—Annie Amrhein
