Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

NYC's Japan Society won't let earthquakes and tsunamis claim their spirit. An otaku (geek culture)-themed party is scheduled for tomorrow, and they've got goodies from Kinokuniya and Kid Robot to give away. Officially the party is called "Uki Uki Nights," and it celebrates cosplay, where those who are into it dress up as maids, Gothic Lolitas or their favorite manga characters. This is the place to break out those vintage Vivienne Westwood rocking horse shoes that've been gathering dust or your most deconstructed Comme des Garçons jacket. Plus, if your outfit is good enough, it can win tickets to the NY Comic-con.

It's 6pm—10pm this Friday, May 6 at the Japan Society. Entry is free and there's complimentary admission to the Society's newest exhibit, "Bye Bye Kitty!!!" plus a cash bar.
