New York City has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around our fantastic city that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.

Headband-wearing girl about town Arden Wohl knows a thing or two about originality, as photos featuring her unique looks have documented on every style site and fashion publication since 2007. But it's this little taste of LES heaven where she's recently been spending some time working with the owners of Against Nature Atelier creating bespoke capes for herself and a dapper white tuxedo for her boyfriend. Now all we need to know is where she finds those headbands.

Against Nature Atelier is one of my favorite stores in NY. It is totally hidden away on Chrystie Street, but inside it's like an old fashioned men's lounge. It is very exclusive and a destination for bespoke clothing and jewelry. While they are better known for men's suiting, I have had custom capes and blazers made, as well as custom silver pieces—all made on the premises.
With owners Amber Doyle and Jake Mueser, I designed a floor-length black cashmere cape with a raspberry silk lining. I also have a shorter raspberry cashmere cape with purple lining, which is adorable. I was inspired by WWII nurse capes, but I wanted some fantastical proportions worked in, as well as other special features I had been wanting to experiment with for a long while. I collaborated with Amber and Jake to get every detail right.
For immaculate tailoring, construction and imagination they are the best in NY! My boyfriend had a very cool custom shawl collar white tuxedo made for a wedding in an Italian castle last August. This shop is tucked away on an industrial block, but brimming with creative energy.
