Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Yesterday, a rep from Sigerson Morrison contacted us to point out that the company isn't affiliated with this Friday's big shoe blowout, even though it's hosted by brand creators Kari Sigerson and Miranda Morrison. Kari and Miranda left the label a few months ago, so Friday's sale is unauthorized. As the rep put it, "We cannot speak to or vouch for the merchandise at the sale. We're totally uninvolved."

So where are these shoes coming from? We got in touch with Kari Sigerson, who gave us what might be the best possible answer: The sale is a liquidation of E.71st Street's Sigerson Morrison Laboratory Boutique. The store, which is now closed, carried an edited mix of Sigerson Morrison's sexy city heels along with accessories and art. "The stock is amazing, some of the last things that will be produced in Italy, with exception of the Belle shoes which are from China," writes Sigerson. Naturally, when the sale open Fridays, we'll be there with bells (and possibly also Belles) on.
