Rainy Day Deals on Leather and Dresses at Yigal Azroël

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

While some fashion devotées willingly stood out in the drenching rain for early pickings at discount Louboutins, another group peacefully shopped in the temperature controlled dry climate of the Yigal Azroël sale. Enjoying the respite from the miserable weather, shoppers perused current season Yigal Azroël at 70% off, plus heavily discounted samples and past season pieces from the main line and the diffusion cut25 collection. There's also one largely undisturbed rack of menswear, too, but more on that in a bit.

Price-wise, we found the best deals to in the cut25 section at the back. Maybe it's this never-ending winter, but we found ourselves gravitating toward the leather pieces—namely the body-con leather and spandex-paneled moto-jackets (especially in the bone) priced at a very reasonable $150. We also liked the supple and mossy-hued leather vest (also $150) and a black chunky knit and wide-leather-piped zip-front frock (priced as a dress at $90). There are also plenty of spring and summer friendly frocks, including a sexy, sexy leather halter, front-zip number (in bright orange and taupe) and jersey color-block tank numbers. Additional pricing starts runs $40 for tops, shirts and skirts, $45 for pants and $60 for knits. The cut25 sizing seemed to skew on the small side—we saw lots of zero to four.

As for the mainline Yigal samples and past season discounts, pricing starts at $50 for tees and skirts and runs $65 for pants, $75 for knits and blouses, $125 for dresses, $150 for outerwear and $200 for leather and gowns. A few of our favorites: Drool-worthy vintage-feel cropped moto-cross jackets, slick black blazers with zip-off faux fur chubby sleeves and slouchy houndstooth cropped-back and leather-trimmed vests.

The current season Yigal pieces are 70% off and pricing runs approximately $126+ for tops, $195+ for pants, $239+ for above-the-knee frocks and $299+ for blazer jackets. Practicing some wishful thinking for a moment, we admired a flowing watercolor maxi-dress for $299 and an embossed leather trimmed ivory embroidered mini-frock for $396. Definitely pricier than the cut25 deals, but 70% off current season isn't too shabby, either.

We should briefly touch on the runway sample shoes, which for women run from size 38/8 and up and are priced at $75 a pair. There are a few Manolo Blahnik styles (buckle straps and strappy sandals) and some have definitely seen better days. The black zip-front booties still have the models' names masking-taped to the insides ("Veronika/Jessica"). There are also some Walter Steiger stiletto sandals. The sneakers (for men and women) are priced at $50 a pair.

Speaking of men, there is one single menswear rack that pretty much serves the worthy purpose of occupying the boys while the girls shop. The pricing runs $30 for tees, $50 for cardies and pants, $60 for shirting and $75 for jackets. The sizing runs the gamut, but there isn't a ton of selection.

There is a coat and bag check at the front and cash and credit are both accepted. Also, there isn't a dressing area, so women have made the semi-blocked off cut25 section their makeshift dressing room. (Luckily, the menswear rack—and the male security guard—are located on the other end of the sale.) Staffers confirmed that they will be replenishing with more sizes, but all the styles are out on the floor.
