Good news keeps coming from Uniqlo. Earlier this week, the roster for this year's Designer's Invitation Project was revealed, and now, we learn that the rumor about the brand's Herald Square location is officially true. Taking over one floor of Loft and two floors of Dr. Jay's, the brand new Uniqlo is set to open in late fall of 2011, right after the upcoming massive Fifth Avenue location opens up in early fall.
Despite the space's "notoriously" cheap owners (Sol Goldman), who want $7 million a year in rent, plus another $7 million just for the hell of it, things are moving forward. Not only is the lease for the new location signed, sealed and delivered, but Uniqlo's also looking to hire an insane number of people. 1,000 retail associates and 100 supervisors for both the Herald Square and Fifth Avenue locations are expected to hop on board—making that a whopping 1,100 new staff members. Recession, reschmession.
