City Room profiles a surprise publishing success on the Upper West Side: City Councilwoman Gale A. Brewer's guide to elderly-friendly grocery stores. The pamphlet ranks supermarkets on amenities like handicap-accessible bathrooms and available seating, then marks them with an incredibly elaborate system of symbols. And it couldn't be a bigger hit with locals: All 500 copies of the guide disappeared when Brewer unveiled it back on April 5, and since then another 1,000 have been snapped up. [City Room]
