On Sunday the Barneys Warehouse Sale draws to a close, which means we have good news and bad news. The good news: Final markdowns seem to have arrived, so broke shopaholics can rejoice. However, the bad news is that much of the selection is picked over, and since the prices are slashed to resemble your local Loehmanns, the crowds are fairly intense.
Our inside look at the sale today showed that women’s designer wear is now 65% off, and a fair amount of designer names are still on the racks. At 50% off, women’s ready-to-wear prices are a bit disappointing, as they have been marked much lower in past years. This may suggest that these are not in fact the final markdowns, or that this department has been so successful that it is selling out without heftier price cuts. While the shoe selection is still plentiful, it is nowhere near as extensive as earlier in the week, and the signs of manhandling have started to appear. The denim selection and prices are good, but at this point, there are fewer desirable styles and cuts left over across the board. One bonus: We caught a glance at some great J Brand and Current/Elliott pairs for less than $80.
Although recent weather may suggest otherwise, there is still a need for outerwear, and luckily the options for women are diverse and in great condition. To be expected at this late point in the sale, women’s accessories are depleted, with a poor selection of bags, and a mess of odd belts abandoned in the bottom of the bins.
For the fashionable gentleman, suits, shirts, and other expensive apparel have only been cut to about 25% off, while sport coats and outerwear are approaching 75% off. This is by far the largest selection of the entire sale, and is still well organized with many high-end options available.—Alexa Gordon
