It's as if Joseph Altuzarra heard and answered our sample sale prayers. We caught up with the designer last night at the Jeffrey Fashion Cares gala on the Intrepid Air & Space Museum and asked him if he would please, please have a sample sale, and guess what?
"It's coming," the designer said. "We've never done one before, but we've amassed more and more merchandise and we're going to have one very soon."
Joseph gave us a teaser on what to expect. "It's gonna be everything from the very beginning including shoes and a lot of clothes. A lot." Holy crap, we think we might explode. Plus we can already picture a lively bunch queuing up outside and totally unleashing inside. The good-natured designer seemed to be innocent in the ways of the whole down and dirty sample sale business, though.
"You mean during the sample sale?" he incredulously asked after we told him that shoppers will wait in line for an anticipated sale. "Wait, does that actually happen? No!" Oh, Joseph, where have you been?
"I hope that ours will be really civilized," the designer optimistically declared. "I hope people will be really nice to each other." He acted out a little vignette: "'Here, you can have that jacket.'" Well, it is heartwarming to see a non-jaded fashion type who still believes in human kindness even in a sample sale setting. Stay tuned for word on the dates as we'll definitely be monitoring this situation.
