As you couldn't possibly not have heard, Target is relaunching selected dresses from their designer collaboration series. Dubbed the Target GO International Designer Collective, the 34-piece set celebrates five years of collaborating and includes best sellers from 17 designer collections ranging from relevant to Zac Posen.

The lot goes on sale in selected stores and on-line on the 13th, but a slew of invited guests got a head start last night at the Ace Hotel's Opening Ceremony. The shop stocked the complete line—all priced under $45—while hosting a star-studded celebration over champagne, gin cocktails, beef and Stilton empanadas, fishy-porky mystery sliders and a fairly mind-blowing molten cheese beignet situation.

You might assume the fashion set would turn their noses up at a bunch of mass-market frocks that—to be honest—are all exactly the same length, pretty similar in shape and don't much reference the star-designers they are presumably designed by. You would be assuming wrong: The shopping area was pretty much a mob and it wasn't always clear whether a given person was a shopper going off to buy a dozen dresses or a staffer returning to restock or reorganize (a nearly lost cause). All the same, the space was cheerfully decorated with African violets and a variety of travel-themed paraphernalia—suit cases and road signs and the like.

Back behind the store was a vast party room, pitch dark and rumbling with Vampire Weekend-inspired faux-world pop along with the usual hipster hits and hip hop subjects. Long-necked mannequins literally had the proportions of a Barbie, Route 66-style neon glowed, and each designer's name was spelled out on arrow-shaped all-roads-point-to whatever signage. It was pretty adorable.

The Bad News step team re-enacted the steps from that promotional video (in Luella Bartley) and Santigold rocked a three-song set, after DJ Mia Moretti spinned along to electric violinist Caitlin Moe (personally, we'd rather just hear the song). Major surprise guest alert: Sheila E. showed up to bang the drums and play her biggest hit, "The Glamorous Life."

(Seriously, between those beignets and Sheila E. being there: Totally worth waiting in the rain for sure.)

Bold-faced names: Chloe Sevigny (looking righteous), Liv Tyler, Michelle Trachtenberg ("Omigod, that's Harriet the Spy"), Aziz Ansari and Nina Garcia, plus designers Erin Fetherston, Tracy Feith, Thakoon Panichgul, Richard Chai, Carmen Hawk, Johnson Hartig, Sophie Albou, Rogan Gregory and Gaby Basora.
