Business must be good for Vera Balyura. The model-turned-jewelry-maker specializes in pieces that take the current trend towards whimsical, animal-based design and push it to weird, inspired places. Where other designers are doing owls, or foxes, or sparrows, her label Verameat is doing centaur pirates and dinosaurs eating fried chicken. And they're clearly selling: Balyura tells the Local East Village that she's planning to open a flagship in Manhattan sometime this year. [The Local]
