Ace Hotel Pop-Up; Kelly Cutrone Might Make You Cry or Famous

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

FLATIRON—Does anyone actually go to the Ace Hotel to rent a room, and, hmm, sleep there? Regardless of if you've ever been an actual guest or not, there's always one excuse or another to travel to the no-man's land that is West 29th Street. Last September was one of them, when The Shiny Squirrel hosted a pop-up showroom and sample sale featuring ten independent designers—this time around, they've upped the ante and made that number twelve. The sale is tomorrow and tomorrow only, from 6-9 p.m., so if you're into jewelry by Georgia Varidakis, WE ARE HERE, and Elizabeth Knight, need a dreamcatcher from Species by the Thousands, or are searching for the best tee shirt ever (see slideshow) then tomorrow just so happens to be your lucky day. MTV—Do you need a little bit of help—from Kelly Cutrone, perhaps?—in launching that fill-in-the-blank career? Can you pass for somewhere in between the 18 to 23-year-old age bracket? If so, then MTV wants you for an upcoming reality show that's probably something like Made on steroids. Send an email to casting@leftfieldpictures.com and explain why you should be one of the chosen few. However, if you're prone to tears, then you might want to sit this one out—Cutrone's book was called If You Have to Cry, Go Outside, after all. [Racked Inbox]—Tiffany Yannetta
