Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Elle's newly redesigned website has some major Meatpacking District news: The Helmut Lang boutique, which opened on Washington Street in 2007, quietly shuttered last week. This isn't necessarily a sign of rough times for Lang, though. The brand is reopening on Spring and Mercer in Soho on February 8th, according to the Elle report. And because the same parent company owns Helmut Lang and Theory, the new store will also carry Olivier Theyskens's new collection.

As for 819 Washington, it won't remain empty for long. Improvd, the child of Atrium boutique owner Sam Ben-Avraham and Diesel vet Valentino Vettori, will open in the space during Fashion Week.
