Noting the huge, sleek Lady Gaga signage on the storefront at 344 W. 14th Street, local blog Paper and String wonders if it it's possible that the Egg Queen is opening her own store. After all, they point out, if any neighborhood in the city were to get some Gaga retail, it would probably be the Meatpacking District.
We love this rumor, obviously, and it breaks our heart to bust it, but the truth is that the sign is just an ad for Gaga's "Born This Way" album. 344 W. 14th was recently leased by Denim Habit, a Philly-based jeans chain on an expansion kick. Denim Habit recently purchased Long Island's National Jean Company, which has a few NYC locations, but this new space will be a Denim Habit proper. They're letting Gaga's record label use the windows for ads until March, at which point they'll put up their own signage. And the store itself will open this August.
