Barneys Sale Preview Finale: Home Sweet Home

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

The oft-neglected housewares section at the Barneys Warehouse Sale traded up to a higher-profile corner spot upstairs, near the women's shoes. Now that we think about it, the locale was the home of the former womenswear fitting area. However, expensive dishware and holiday décor make for a much calmer scene than a dizzying mess of clothes and half-naked ladies maniacally trying them on.

Per usual, the Barneys home sale is the optimum occasion to pick up super posh holiday paraphernalia for all denominations. Check out the mod gold-edged peacock menorah ($74 from $145) and an old-school TV music box with a Christmas caroling scene ($35 from $135). Adorable! Tree ornaments are available for a steal, like this bedazzled ball for $3.50 (from $14) and an adorable Dalmatians in a stocking one for $12 (from $50). And hurry before the pretty Chanukah chocolates go bad ($6 from $24).

Keep your room fresh and fragrant on a budget with Daniel Benedict votive trios ($20) and reed diffusers ($30) and also Christofle room sprays ($8 from $20). Or just stock up on cheap gifts. We all do it. There's always the requisite expensive picture frame, like $125 for an oyster shell concoction with buttery soft suede backing.

Staffers were still setting out the dishware, which included a random three Missoni plates marked at $63 each. There is also always a smattering of lone wine glasses, not to mention a giant Memento wine glass priced at $17. Also, we think the Ajka crystal decanter marked to $124 might be a good deal. We're not totally sure, but it did look really official.

Oddly enough, there were a bunch of expensive leather and furry bags ($500+) on the lower shelves in home, too. A staffer confirmed that the bags would remain there, but couldn't really explain why.

So congratulations, Barneys home, for finding a new home. And with that, good night. We'll see you in the line in the morning.
