According to—let's face it—ridiculously out-of-date tradition, tin and aluminum are the celebratory tributes for a ten-year anniversary. Well, thank goodness Marc Jacobs decided to go with a pop-up shop instead to mark the tenth anniversary of the creation of his diffusion Marc by Marc Jacobs line. The powers that be decided to keep it in the family, temporarily bumping the Little Marc stock out of its home to make room for a capsule collection of Marc by Marc limited-edition greatest hits for a two-week period. (For those wondering "what about the kids?"—don't worry, the Little Marc togs will be back in a couple weeks with a full-on spring collection.)
"We took the best styles of the past 10 years and reproduced them in different colors," Robert Duffy explained to WWD. Blasts from the past include spring dresses in punky prints ($278), military jackets in mint and khaki ($298) for women, and military pants with red piping for men ($168). The ladies' mouse flats in basic black and whimsical animal prints make an adorable appearance for $275.
There are of course the requisite affordable items like $18 jeweled headbands, hairpins and brooches, and $14 cashmere-blend ankle socks. Limited-edition commemorative pieces include a "Marc by Marc Jacobs is Ten" tote ($128) and hand-drawn tees (starting at $48).
The exciting news of the week is that there is a gift with purchase. Fans have their pick of Marc by Marc birthday-themed Rubik's Cubes, garment bags, or dust bags. As of now there is no spending minimum for the gift, but this could change at any moment. We'd suggest rushing down to Bleecker Street ASAP to snag a color-block tenth anniversary Rubik's cube with a purchase of $14 socks.
