Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Yesterday, we stopped by the Opening Ceremony sample sale to peruse the women's offerings, and the Shophound popped in as well to check out men's. Similar to what we found for women, he says the sale is "a bit jumbled and hit-or-miss." As in: you've gotta hunt.
He reports: "If your sample sale ESP is in good working order, you can really find all sorts of little gems." For the shoes, he spotted some from Mark McNairy (we remember seeing a pair yesterday marked down to $85), as well as Robert Clergerie and Special Edition Doc Martens. He adds that some of the Opening Ceremony shoes are marked down to about 75% off.
The men's racks reside just on the other side of the women's area, and he notes that at "Opening Ceremony it is sometimes hard to tell which is which, so even that distinction is a little arbitrary." Touché. As for vendors, expect to find the in-house line, Band of Outsiders, Barbour, Dunhill, Rodarte, and more. And then of course, "lots of labels that nobody has ever heard of."
The sale runs through Sunday, and by the looks of what we saw yesterday, there's plenty of merchandise to go around. Finding that one piece (or more) that you like in your size, though, is the real battle.
