TG170 has weathered the storm of LES boutique closures since the mid-90s, but The Lo-Down reports that the store's run might be through. On the TG170 Facebook page, owner Terri Gillis announced that the store would be closing on Broome Street, and didn't give much word on if or where she'd be moving too:
Hi Everyone! We will be moving out of our current Broome St address in January. Please visit us not only to say hi but take advantage of the markdowns! Everything in the store is on sale- most items are under $100. Many jeans are now $50, including JBrand. We ? you. Keep u posted
Back in September of 2010, TG170 announced it would be moving to 77 Ludlow from its longtime home at 170 Ludlow due to rising rents, and later, it settled into a new spot at 243 Broome Street. The Lo-Down recalls a 2009 story from the Times, where Gillis said that she even had to use money from her retirement savings to pay the bills. Unfortunately, it looks like things weren't much better on Broome Street. Maybe we're being overdramatic here, but it kind of feels like the end of a Lower East Side era—and we're sure gonna miss those Westies.
