New York City has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around our fantastic city that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.

James Jean, native Brooklynite, is a man of many nicknames (JFK, JFKJean) and many hats. A stylist and personal shopper by trade, he also models, writes, and snaps photos of some of NYC's best dressed guys and gals. He maintains a blog called The Mod Rockers where he showcases his love of all things fashion. His favorite shop is C.H.C.M, which carries a plethora of brands from the established to the emerging.
Clinton Hill Classic Menswear (or C.H.C.M for just about everyone else) is pretty difficult to find for a reason. The exterior signage is modest at best. Tucked slightly below street level on Bond Street, this destination isn't meant to attract the usual shopper looking for lowbrow clothing. At the same time, the well-edited shop carries enough well designed and structured basics to prevent scaring off newcomers to the menswear fraternity.
Shopkeeper Sweetu Patel thrives on mixing household brands (Levi's, Drakes Of London and Borsalino for starters), young NYC-based labels knocking on stardom's door (The Hill-Side and Ovadia & Sons), and fresh designers or labels unknown to the States yet (Adam Rogers and Norse Projects, respectively). Along with that, Sweetu is one of the most approachable, knowledgeable and helpful gents around. All of these things make the year old shop high in the ranks as the best in all of NYC.· The Mod Rockers [Official Site]
