Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

With the holiday party season fast approaching, Tracy Reese is offering up pieces from her main line, Plenty, and Frock for 65% to 75% off retail prices. The sale is planted in the Garment District, and despite the fact that today was just a preview, we were greeted inside by a crowd of frenzied shoppers. The space is naturally lit by large windows and price lists are posted throughout the floor, though you’ll be so distracted by the clothing you won’t be thinking about such formalities.

All the inventory is categorized by size only, so you’ll find everything from dresses to trousers in your size all on a single rack. The sizes range from S-L and 0-12, and the racks are full but shoppable—not overcrowded. We were told that items would be replenished throughout the sale as rack levels got lower. There are no designated changing rooms. Instead, customers try on merchandise toward the back of the floor.

We started by trying on shoes, all of which were priced at $50. There weren’t very many styles out on the table, but the few that were for sale covered an array of tastes. We found studded clogs, high-top lace up boots, and open-toe platform sandals. The shoes came in sizes mostly from 7-10, and we even found a few 11’s in the bunch as well.

Next we made our way to the racks to shop the dresses. Tracy Reese dresses were $145, and jersey dresses $95. We found a black tank dress with a front leather panel, and a sheer embroidered dress for $145. A standout in the dress section was a micro-pleat dress with a bow detail that came in turquoise or black in the same price range. For $95 we found printed jersey dresses that gathered at the waist, and also some wrap styles. Plenty and Frock dresses were $100, and jersey dresses $65. We found a Plenty cotton striped dress for $65, and a Frock silk dress for $100, with lots more draped and ruched dresses in the mix. There was also an abundance of Frock sheer silk dresses all priced at $100.

The racks might be full of fabulous dresses, but be sure not to skip over the outerwear at this sale! Tracy Reese sweaters were $105, jackets $145, and coats $225. There was one piece in particular that we noticed got tried on by a lot of customers, a chunky cream open knit sweater for $105. Sorting through the racks we also spotted a full length wool plaid poncho with leather trim for $225.

Plenty and Frock sweaters were $75, jackets $105, and coats $135. In this price range we ran into a great selection of sweaters. There was a printed cotton sweater and a cream and leather trim sweater, both for $75. We also found a plum colored blazer for $105.

There were formal basics and blouses hiding in the sale as well. Tracy Reese pants and skirts were $120 and $85 respectively, and Plenty and Frock skirts were $55. Tracy Reese blouses were $95, and there were many sheer, printed short- and long-sleeve pieces in the selection. The prints included floral, animal, and even plaid.

Some pieces were straight from the runway, such as a faux-fur trimmed skirt and a wool leopard print coat, though most of the runway pieces were sample sizes. As if the deals at Tracy Reese weren’t already good enough, sample sizes 0-4 on select styles were even more deeply discounted. All Tracy Reese items were $45, and Plenty and Frock items $30. A red mark through the label of the garment denoted these prices.—Apneet Kaur
