We've got bad news and good news about the Nanette Lepore sample sale. The bad news is that it doesn't seem to have gotten as much publicity this time around (people we spoke to hadn't received any mailings), so you may not know about it. The good news is that the relatively small crowd who was there first thing this morning didn't snap up all the good samples, so there's still tons of great deals there.
We'll start with the samples, because we always do. When you first arrive, make a beeline for the far wall. There you'll find just over an aisle's-worth of samples, leftover stock, and returns from previous seasons. Prices here range from about $40 for some of the older tops to just under $200. The best deals in the sample area are the coats. The majority of the sample coats run $160, including quite a few really nice leather jackets. Most of the sizes you'll see in this section are 2s, although there are other sizes. If you see something you like, try it on. Even if you're not a 2 it might fit you, because the samples don't always run true to size.
As for merchandise from this season, you'll see plenty of stock from the Nanette Lepore's fall collection. If you're looking for super cute suit separates for work, there are a lot of options, along with Nanette's usual assortment of compliment-attracting dresses, tops, and coats. One of the stand-out pieces is a crème cape, which originally listed for more than $700 and is now just $275. Overall, prices run about what they usually do at Nanette Lepore sales. Cardigan sweaters, tops, skirts, and pants are all $95. (Pullover sweaters are just $75). Dresses are $145, blazers are $195 and coats are $275.
The sale includes a limited assortment of Nanette's more casual Oonagh line. Prices here range from $40 for some of the skirts and T-shirts to a maximum of $100 for the long woven dresses.
There are no shoes this time around, much to our dismay, as we've had our eye on a leopard skin pair in the store...but there are plenty of great purses. Most are leather, although there are some really stylish leather-accented straw bags as well. Prices here range from about $85 to $165.
Historically, Nanette Lepore sales don't usually have too much new merchandise added after the first day of the sale, and there aren't a lot of reductions. So you go as soon as you can. That said, there are still a lot of samples and great merchandise left, so even if you can't make it right away, it's still worth going if you're Nanette Lepore fan.
