Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Yesterday, we asked you to vote on the Store of the Year—the New York City retail institution that's had the most exciting 2011 so far. We took into account merchandise, expansions, makeovers, and collaborations, so it's a pretty broad field—there's even a supermarket on there. This morning's Racked Awards poll gets a little more specific. We're looking to pick the best new store from a field of ten candidates that opened in the past year.
When we pulled together the list, there was a big debate at Racked HQ over including macaron shop Ladurée, since it's sort of Eater territory. But Ladurée considers itself a French luxury brand, and it certainly set the fashion world on fire, so it's going up against other newcomers like Thomas Sires in Nolita, The Reformation on the Lower East Side, and Nordstrom charity concept shop Treasure & Bond on West Broadway. Who knows? Maybe macarons will win out.
Update: Polls are now closed.
