New York City has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around our fantastic city that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.

As the content director for StyleCaster, Summer Krecke's role involves hunting down the global fashion news of the day. When she was living in Astoria, her curatorial eye led her to Candy Plum, an affordable fashion-forward boutique that stocks a selection of handmade items by (mainly) local designers. Best of all, they have a plethora of earrings and accessories for $20 and under.
Candy Plum in Astoria is definitely a favorite; it was my go-to gifting destination when I lived in the area. I love one-of-kind, indie and hand-crafted jewelry, and Candy Plum is a one-stop shop for it. Local up-and-coming designers can test the waters here. The shop is really small, but the selection is enormous. Also, the hours are also erratic, so make sure you call ahead before trekking over there!· Candy Plum [Official Site]
