Inside Mango's Second Manhattan Store on 34th Street

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Spanish retailer Mango has quietly soft-opened on 34th Street, adding more European fast fashion to a block that already has H&M and Zara. Like its Soho sister (and like other Mangos worldwide), the new space is designed according to the Japanese principle of Wabi-sabi, which emphasizes austerity and natural imperfection. That may sound highbrow for a Herald Square store, but in practice, it translates to a simple, spare, and rustic environment stocked with highly affordable clothes. Head to Fashion Herald for four recent standouts, including a flattering Kate Middleton-esque polka dot number for $79.90.
