The more the NYPD cracks down on Canal Street counterfeiters, the more the counterfeiters are fighting back. One recently threw a cup of hot coffee in the face of a cop, according to a DNAinfo report. Vendors are spooked not only because the police are busting them more often, but also because the ones who get caught find themselves facing more jail time. And the violence is upsetting local residents: "I've really felt uneasy and unsafe," said one woman who lives at Canal and Greene. "Every day there is an argument among the vendors, and it ends in violence." [DNAinfo]
