Four Boutiques Explain What to Wear to Fashion Week

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Welcome to Pimp Your Product, a new feature in which we ask retailers to tell us about their favorite current items according to a weekly theme. Want us to harness the collective power of NYC's shopkeepers to solve your own sartorial problems? Suggest a topic at tips@racked.com.

New York Fashion Week is just around the corner, which means people who work in the industry are all mentally preparing for the chaos, stocking up on Emergen-C, and planning their schedules (and by "schedules" we mean "outfits"). This time is especially crazy for retailers, the ones who will be attending the shows for a purpose—stocking up their stores with the latest designs from American talent. We asked a few of them to recommend one item from their stores that they'll be wearing religiously throughout NYFW.

Store: Kirna Zabete
Item: Céline Black Cat's Eye Sunglasses
Why: Says store owner and co-foundr Beth Buccini, "I'm currently obsessed with my Céline black cat's eye sunglasses. I think they might be the best pair of sunglasses I've ever owned. I'll wear them to every show—but only outside."

Store: Oak
Item: threeASFOUR Spiral Dress
Why: OK, it might not look particularly appropriate for February in New York City. But with black tights and a jacket, it's a perfect dress for a show, especially when you take off the top layer to reveal the black net detail at the back.

Store: Bird
Item: Brass Screw Cuff Bracelet
Why: Says Bird owner Jennifer Mankins, "I'm going to be wearing the brass screw cuff bracelet from Miansai everyday during Fashion Week. It's a rocker take on the Cartier love bracelet and comes sized small or large for a perfect tight fit. I'll wear it to all my favorite shows like Alexander Wang, Proenza Schouler, Zero +Maria Cornejo and Rachel Comey. In fact, I like it so much I might even wear one on each wrist!"

Store: Comme des Garçons
Item: Paco Rabanne le69 Bag (Stingray Style)
Why: Because nothing says "I know my fashion history" like carrying a reissued iconic purse.
