We think it's safe to say that will-they-or-won't-they-open Custo Barcelona UWS won't be opening anytime soon, if ever. Last August, we walked by the corner of Columbus Avenue and 71st and noticed the Custo Barcelona ads that wrapped the former restaurant space were down. For the past few months, we've been staring at ratty brown papered windows and the old Penang closing posters still up.

Well, today, a walk past the empty space revealed huge for rent signs advertising the corner spot as a retail or restaurant space. Back in August, PR reps confirmed that Custo's holding company still owned the building (apartments and all), so it seems like playing landlord is the more lucrative option for the Spanish retailer.
