Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

The music industry has undergone so many changes over the past decade that you can't fault record stores for struggling to keep up. Still, you'd think the Best Buy on Lexington and 86th Street might want to put up a banner for something just a tad more current than Jewel's 2001 album This Way.
